Intimidation and Violence in Lucknow: Residents Beaten for Objecting to Drinking Outside Apartment

LUCKNOW: A shocking incident unfolded in the Janakipuram area of Lucknow, where residents of Rohit Grand Apartment were physically assaulted after objecting to people consuming alcohol outside the complex. The attackers, estimated to be around 20 individuals, barged into the apartment, vandalized property, and threatened the victims against filing a police complaint.

According to the residents, the trouble began in the Mansaa Lawn located in front of the apartment, which frequently hosts weddings and other events. Recently, during a wedding ceremony, a large crowd of vehicles and people had gathered, some of whom were consuming alcohol. Residents reported facing severe inconvenience, as they were unable to step out with their families due to the disturbance.

The Assault
Abhay Singh Rathore reports that when the apartment’s security personnel tried to reason with the intoxicated individuals, an argument ensued. Initially, a couple of the individuals were escorted inside the apartment to calm them down, after which they left peacefully. However, shortly after, a larger group of 15–20 people forcefully entered the apartment and physically assaulted the residents, damaging property in the process. Residents allege that the constant activity in the lawn outside the apartment has been a recurring source of conflict.

Police Response
The apartment residents filed a formal complaint with the Janakipuram police. Victims further claim that when they visited the hospital for medical treatment, the assailants threatened them with serious harm in front of police officers. Despite the availability of CCTV footage documenting the incident, the police stated that the dispute arose over arguments regarding alcohol consumption, and later both parties reconciled. No arrests have been reported so far, and the matter remains under observation.
