Intern Doctor Assaulted by Chief Warden at Barabanki Medical College Over Food Complaint

A shocking incident of violence has been reported from the Mayo Institute of Medical Sciences, Barabanki, where an intern doctor was allegedly brutally assaulted by the college’s Chief Warden after raising complaints about poor-quality hostel food and drinking water. The attack left the doctor with a serious head injury, triggering widespread outrage among students and forcing police intervention.

Complaint Turns Violent

According to information available, Dr Prashant Prabhakar Vishwas, an MBBS intern at the institute, approached Chief Warden Rohit Singh to complain about the unhygienic food and unsafe drinking water being served in the hostel. The discussion reportedly escalated into a heated argument, following which the chief warden, along with his associates, allegedly attacked the intern with sticks and iron rods.

During the assault, the doctor’s head was struck with an iron rod, causing profuse bleeding. Several videos showing the assault and the ensuing scuffle have since gone viral on social media.

Students Erupt in Protest

The incident sparked immediate anger among students, with hundreds of medical students staging protests inside the campus. They accused the college administration of intimidation, poor facilities, and a culture of high-handedness.

Students alleged that despite charging hefty fees, the institute fails to provide basic amenities, including clean hostels and nutritious food. They further claimed that the management routinely suppresses complaints through threats and pressure tactics.

Police Step In After Two-Hour Standoff

As tensions escalated, City CO Sangam Kumar, along with a heavy police force, reached the spot and managed to bring the situation under control after nearly two hours of unrest. Police engaged in dialogue with protesting students to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order.

Chief Warden Removed After Student Demand

Facing mounting pressure, the college Chairperson and Director Dr Madhulika Singh arrived at the campus and addressed students using a loudspeaker. Accepting their primary demand, she announced the immediate removal of the accused Chief Warden and the appointment of a new warden.

She assured students that a fair and impartial inquiry would be conducted and warned that anyone found guilty would be dismissed from service. “I consider all students like my children, and no injustice will be allowed,” she said.

Doctor Injured, Legal Action Awaited

Kotwali In-Charge Sudhir Singh said the injured intern was sent for medical examination. “He sustained head injuries with heavy bleeding, and also complained of injuries to his back and shoulder,” the officer said, adding that legal action will be initiated once a formal complaint is received.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about student safety, administrative accountability, and grievance redressal mechanisms in private medical institutions.
