Integrating Ayurveda, Yoga and Modern Therapies Shows Promising Results for Children: AIIA Goa

NEW DELHI | January 31: An integrated approach combining Ayurveda, yoga and modern medical therapies is showing encouraging results in the treatment and rehabilitation of children with neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders, a senior official of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, said on Saturday.

The institute launched the PRAYAS Centre in November 2025, marking the establishment of a first-of-its-kind integrated paediatric neuro-rehabilitation facility in the country. The centre offers coordinated rehabilitation services aimed at improving the physical, cognitive and behavioural outcomes of affected children.

According to the official, PRAYAS brings together traditional Ayurvedic interventions, therapeutic yoga practices and evidence-based modern medical care to deliver a holistic treatment model tailored to individual patient needs.

Since its inception, the centre has treated 574 patients through its specialised neuro-muscular and neuro-behavioural outpatient departments (OPDs). In addition, 176 children have received comprehensive integrated care through inpatient department (IPD) services, the institute said.

Experts associated with the programme noted that early intervention and multidisciplinary rehabilitation play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life of children with neurological conditions. The positive outcomes observed at PRAYAS highlight the potential of integrative healthcare models in addressing complex paediatric disorders.

The initiative is being seen as a significant step towards strengthening holistic and patient-centric healthcare, particularly for children requiring long-term neuro-rehabilitative support.
