Indore: In Indore district, a young man became enraged after his name was removed from the voter list following the Special Identification Revision (SIR) exercise. Frustrated with repeated delays, he confronted the district collector at the DM office, demanding action. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Frustration Over Administrative Delays
The youth stated that he had submitted all the required documents but still found his name deleted from the voter list. He claimed to have visited the collectorate multiple times—seven, in fact—without resolution. The incident highlights the difficulties faced by citizens, especially the economically weaker sections, in getting their issues addressed during the SIR process.
Speaking at the collectorate, the youth expressed his frustration: “The collector is supposed to listen to the problems of poor people, but that’s not happening. There is a public hearing every Tuesday, but even after coming several Tuesdays in a row, my issue remains unresolved.”
Emotional Appeal
He further revealed personal hardships, saying that his father has passed away and that his mother is visually impaired. In his frustration, the youth attempted to rip up his documents in the collectorate premises, demanding immediate intervention.
He criticized the process, stating: “Our names have been removed despite having valid documents. If the collector does not hear the poor and help them, then what is the purpose of public hearings?”
Ongoing SIR Challenges
The Special Identification Revision (SIR) is currently underway in Madhya Pradesh, during which several voter names have reportedly been deleted. Citizens are facing difficulties in rectifying errors, highlighting administrative bottlenecks and the need for faster grievance redressal.
