Indore: Ten people have lost their lives and over 200 have fallen ill due to contaminated drinking water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, casting a shadow over the city’s image of cleanliness. When a television reporter questioned Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya about the incident, he reacted sharply, telling the journalist, “Don’t ask frivolous questions.” The video of his response quickly went viral, prompting the minister to issue a public apology.
However, attention has also turned to a local councillor, Kamal Vaghela, who was seen in the same viral footage defending Minister Vijayvargiya. Vaghela, wearing a sky-blue kurta, is a BJP representative from the very area hit hardest by the contaminated water crisis.
Allegations of Negligence
Local residents have accused Councillor Vaghela of ignoring repeated complaints about dirty water and mismanaging the situation. In one video, Vaghela is seen casually enjoying a swing in a public park on the evening of December 30, while the community around him was grappling with a serious health emergency. Witnesses say residents who approached him with complaints were intimidated and asked to leave.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning the accountability of elected officials in handling public health crises.
