Indian Army’s Tsewang Wins Mussoorie Ultra Marathon, Completes 50 km in 3 Hours 40 Minutes

Mussoorie witnessed a thrilling display of endurance and skill as Indian Army personnel Tsewang claimed first place in the 50 km Ultra Marathon. Tsewang, currently posted in Ladakh, completed the challenging course in 3 hours and 40 minutes, overcoming steep inclines along the route.

Mussoorie: Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Himalayan hills, runners from across India participated in the Mussoorie Ultra Marathon, showcasing their talent and determination. Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, the chief guest at the closing ceremony, honored the winners with trophies and cash prizes.

Minister Joshi congratulated Sandeep Sahni, head of the organizing committee, local sports enthusiasts, and social organizations for successfully hosting the event. He lauded the runners’ timings and praised the arrangements made for participants.

Tsewang, who spent three years studying at a Tibetan school in Mussoorie and frequently visits the Dehradun-Mussorie region, revealed that he is passionate about running. Despite minimal preparation, he aimed to finish the 50 km race in 3 hours 20 minutes. The challenging 25 km uphill section extended his time slightly, yet he emerged victorious.

Delhi-based runner Om Darshan secured third place in the 50 km category, completing the race in 4 hours, 27 minutes, and 55 seconds. He shared that training in polluted plains posed challenges, but Mussoorie’s clean air and high-altitude terrain offered a refreshing experience.

Eighteen-year-old local runner Sanchit Telwan also captivated audiences with his performance. Running since the fourth grade, Sanchit dreams of representing India in the Olympics. He encouraged youth to participate in sports to stay fit and build a bright future.

Runners praised Mussoorie’s natural beauty and clean environment compared to urban pollution. Delhi’s Rekha Rawat, a seasoned competitor, expressed joy at participating in her first high-altitude Ultra Marathon and vowed to return in the future.

Sandeep Sahni thanked all participants, sports organizations, and partners, including Fern Brentwood, FIKU Sports, and Nirankari Mandal. He noted that the tourism department and state government played a key role in the event. The Mussoorie Ultra Marathon will be linked with the upcoming Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival, promising a month-long series of activities aimed at boosting tourism, creating local employment, and benefiting businesses.
