
Delhi: One of the runways at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will be closed for nearly five months starting 16 February 2026 for major rehabilitation work. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that the third runway (11R/29L) will undergo extensive renovation.
The runway, which began operations in 2008 and last underwent partial renovation in 2017, will receive a new surface layer, a new rapid exit taxiway, and an upgraded Instrument Landing System (ILS). This closure comes after 17 years of continuous operations on the runway.
Impact on Delhi Metro
Maintenance work will also affect five Delhi Metro stations on the Blue Line: Akshardham, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Mayur Vihar Extension, New Ashok Nagar, and Noida Sector-15. Escalators at these stations will remain temporarily out of service, and commuters are advised to use lifts instead. DMRC stated that the escalators are undergoing major repairs and overhauling to ensure safe and smooth passenger movement.
Railways Update: New Amrit Bharat Express
In addition, Northern Railway has launched a weekly Amrit Bharat Express (Train Nos. 13065/13066) between Howrah Junction and Anand Vihar Terminal.
- Train 13065 will depart from Howrah Junction every Thursday to Anand Vihar.
- Train 13066 will run from Anand Vihar to Howrah every Saturday, starting 24 January.
The train will stop at several key stations, including Bandel, Bardhaman, Durgapur, Asansol, Dhanbad, Gaya, DDU Junction, Varanasi, Lucknow, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad.
Commuters and travelers are advised to plan their journeys in advance to accommodate these temporary changes and disruptions.
