Gwalior:
A chilling crime driven by obsession and rage has shaken Gwalior, where a 21-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her lover after her engagement was fixed elsewhere.
The accused, Sameer Kushwaha, allegedly slit the throat of his girlfriend Nisha Kushwaha with a sickle and then attacked her with a stone, killing her on the spot. The murder took place on January 20 under the Girwai police station limits. Police arrested the accused two days later, on January 22.
Relationship Turned Deadly
According to police, Nisha and Sameer, who were neighbours, had known each other since childhood. Their friendship gradually turned into a romantic relationship that lasted for nearly two-and-a-half years.
However, due to Sameer’s unemployment, Nisha’s family opposed the relationship and fixed her marriage elsewhere. Under family pressure, Nisha agreed to the marriage, which was scheduled for April 20.
After the engagement, she stopped communicating with Sameer — a decision that reportedly enraged him.
“Why Did You Pretend to Love Me?”
On the afternoon of January 20, around 1:45 pm, Sameer allegedly scaled the boundary wall of Nisha’s house and confronted her while she was alone at home. When Nisha asked him to leave and refused to talk, he lost control.
In a fit of rage, Sameer attacked her with a sickle, slashing her throat. As she lay bleeding, he reportedly shouted, “If you had to leave me, why did you pretend to love me?” He remained at the spot until her breathing stopped and then fled by jumping over the boundary wall.
Police confirmed that after she collapsed, the accused also struck her head with a stone, showing extreme brutality.
Attempts to Stop the Marriage
Investigations revealed that Sameer had made repeated attempts to stop Nisha’s marriage. He allegedly defamed her in the neighbourhood, informed her fiancé about their past relationship, and even issued threats that he would shoot if the wedding procession arrived.
Despite these actions, the marriage plans continued — which further fuelled his anger.
Arrest and Confession
After the murder, Sameer went into hiding and switched off his mobile phone. When police reached his house, the phone was found with his brother, who said Sameer had handed it over before fleeing.
Following a search operation, police arrested Sameer on January 22. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stating that Nisha’s refusal to talk to him and her impending marriage triggered his violent act.
Extreme Cruelty Revealed
Forensic examination and investigation confirmed that the murder was carried out with exceptional cruelty. Police also found evidence suggesting an attempt to mutilate the victim during the assault.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area and once again raised serious concerns over crimes driven by possessiveness, rejection, and toxic relationships.
Police have registered a case of murder and are continuing further legal proceedings.
