“If Water Doesn’t Reach Our Fields, I’ll Become a Baba in Haridwar” Rajgarh Sarpanch’s Dramatic Oath Goes Viral

Rajgarh:
A dramatic and emotional declaration made by a village sarpanch in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district has taken social media by storm.

During the Republic Day celebrations, Piplahela gram panchayat sarpanch Ramchandra Nagar stunned villagers by taking an unusual public oath — promising that if canal water failed to reach the fields during his tenure, he would renounce worldly life and become a baba in Haridwar.

The video of his statement, delivered from the stage during the flag-hoisting ceremony at the village school, has since gone viral.

Oath Taken Before the Entire Village

Addressing the gathering, Nagar urged villagers not to resort to protests or agitations over the water issue. He assured them that the problem would be resolved within his term.

Taking the entire village as witness, the sarpanch declared,
“If even a single field in this village remains without canal water during my tenure, I swear before God that I will go to Haridwar, become a baba, and perform penance.”

His emotionally charged announcement left many villagers stunned and quickly became the topic of discussion across social media platforms.

Political Assurance from the Stage

While addressing the crowd, Nagar also referred to the state and central governments, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav are committed to ensuring water reaches every farm.

He added that he has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party since childhood and that with the same party in power at the state level, development work would not face obstacles.

Video Sparks Debate Online

The unusual promise, blending emotion, faith, and governance, has triggered mixed reactions online — with some praising the sarpanch’s confidence and others questioning whether such dramatic vows can substitute for administrative accountability.

Nevertheless, the statement has undeniably brought the long-pending irrigation issue of the village into the spotlight.

As the video continues to circulate widely, villagers now wait to see whether canal water reaches their fields — or whether the sarpanch will one day make a spiritual journey to Haridwar.
