If Guru Tegh Bahadur Accepts Islam, We All Will…” — PM Modi Recalls Aurangzeb’s Tyranny at Kurukshetra Event

Kurukshetra/Chandigarh:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in Kurukshetra, recounted the brutal atrocities committed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. PM Modi narrated how the Mughal regime forcibly pressured communities to convert to Islam, but Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji remained unshaken.

PM Modi said, “We all know how the Mughals crossed all limits of cruelty—even with the brave Sahibzaade. They accepted being bricked alive but never abandoned their duty or faith. In their honour, India now observes Veer Bal Diwas every year on 26th December.”

The Prime Minister highlighted that his government has consistently worked to restore and preserve Sikh heritage — from completing the Kartarpur Corridor, constructing the ropeway to Hemkund Sahib, to expanding the Virasat-e-Khalsa Museum at Anandpur Sahib.

Forced Conversions and Guru Sahib’s Unmatched Courage

PM Modi narrated how, during Aurangzeb’s rule, Kashmiri Hindus were being forcibly converted. A distressed group approached Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji seeking protection.

Guru Sahib gave them a fearless reply:
“Tell Aurangzeb that if Guru Tegh Bahadur embraces Islam, we all will.”

PM Modi said this single statement reflects the absolute peak of fearlessness. Enraged, Aurangzeb ordered the arrest of Guru Sahib. The Guru voluntarily announced he would go to Delhi.

Despite temptations, threats, and brutality, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji remained firm. To break his spirit, the Mughal rulers barbarically executed his three companions — Bhai Dayala Ji, Bhai Mati Das Ji, and Bhai Sati Das Ji — right before him. Yet, Guru Sahib did not yield.

Ultimately, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life, offering his sheesh (head) for the protection of dharma and humanity.

“Icons Like Guru Tegh Bahadur Are Born Once in History” — PM Modi

Calling Guru Sahib’s sacrifice “unparalleled in world history,” PM Modi said that his courage and sacrifice continue to guide India even today.

On this historic occasion, the Government of India released a commemorative postal stamp and a special coin dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

PM Modi ended his address by saying, “As the religious flag rises in Ayodhya, I am blessed to receive the love and blessings of the Sikh sangat. Standing on this sacred land of Kurukshetra, which once echoed with Lord Krishna’s message of truth and justice, we draw inspiration to uphold righteousness in every era.”
