Lucknow: Senior IAS officer Anamika Singh of the 2004 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre has formally applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), citing personal reasons. Previously, she had sought a central deputation.
A senior official from the appointment department stated that her VRS application is currently under review. Once state-level formalities are completed, the proposal will be sent to the Central Government for final approval. Despite having 13 years left until her retirement in March 2038, Singh has requested early retirement due to family considerations.
Current Posting and Career Background
Anamika Singh is currently serving as the Food Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, she was appointed as Divisional Commissioner of Bareilly, but her posting was later changed to her current position.
Born on 29 March 1978 in Fatehpur, Singh holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Social Work. She joined the IAS in 2003 after clearing the UPSC exam. She has served as District Magistrate in Kaushambi, Hamirpur, and Bahraich, earning a reputation for efficiency and integrity.
Central Deputation and Policy Roles
Singh has spent nearly 8 years on central deputation, first joining in 2013. She has served in the Ministry of Human Resource Development as Under Secretary and Deputy Secretary, and also held the position of Director at NITI Aayog. She returned to Uttar Pradesh in July 2021.
Trend of VRS Among IAS Officers
In recent years, several IAS officers from UP have opted for VRS. This includes officers such as Amod Kumar (1995 batch), Renuka Kumar (1987 batch), Juthika Patankar (1988 batch), Vikas Gothalwal (2003 batch), and Regzin Samphil.
Anamika Singh’s request highlights a growing trend among senior IAS officers seeking early retirement for personal reasons, despite having significant service years remaining.
