IAF Training Aircraft Crashes into Pond in Prayagraj; All Pilots Safe

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh):
A major accident was narrowly averted in Prayagraj on Tuesday when an Indian Air Force (IAF) training aircraft crashed into a pond located in the heart of the city. Thanks to the pilots’ presence of mind, all crew members onboard escaped safely.

According to initial reports, the aircraft was flying over the city when it lost balance mid-air and crashed into a pond behind KP College. The impact produced a loud explosion-like sound that was heard across the surrounding areas, triggering panic among residents.

Eyewitnesses said the noise resembled that of a rocket crash, prompting hundreds of people to rush to the site. At the time of the incident, practical examinations were underway at KP College nearby.

Police, district administration officials, fire brigade personnel, and rescue teams immediately reached the spot after being alerted. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.

Pilots’ Quick Decision Prevents Major Tragedy

Officials revealed that the pilots displayed exceptional judgment by deliberately steering the aircraft toward the pond to avoid damage to residential areas. A red crash alert signal was reportedly issued in advance to warn people in the vicinity.

Sources further stated that the three crew members ejected safely using parachutes and landed in a nearby school ground. They were later taken to hospital for medical examination and are reported to be safe.

Rescue and Recovery Operations Underway

The crashed training aircraft landed in a pond heavily covered with water hyacinth, making recovery operations challenging. Fire brigade and rescue teams have begun preparations to retrieve the aircraft from the water.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the crash. Aerial surveillance using a helicopter is also being conducted to assess the site and assist in recovery planning.

The incident has once again highlighted the crucial role of pilot training, swift decision-making, and emergency protocols in preventing loss of life during aviation emergencies.
