‘I Will Sit on the Ground Until Roads Are Fixed’: Chamoli Village Head Protests Poor Roads

Chamoli/Dehradun: Frustrated with the prolonged neglect of road repairs, local representatives in Chamoli’s Pokhari block erupted in protest during a recent Block Development Committee (BDC) meeting.

The meeting addressed the deteriorating condition of the Jaurasi-Tonji-Kimotha motor road, which has long been a source of hardship for residents. Harikrishna Kimothi, village head of Kimotha, expressed his anger by sitting on the ground in protest, declaring that he would continue this form of demonstration until the road was repaired or reconstructed.

Speaking to officials, Kimothi said the poor condition of the roads severely disrupts daily commuting, access to education, healthcare, and other essential services. The protest briefly disrupted the proceedings of the meeting.

The village head’s actions received support from other local representatives and residents, who echoed concerns that the road’s disrepair was hindering development in the area.

In response, officials assured that a thorough inspection of the road would be conducted promptly and necessary measures taken. Following assurances from Chief Development Officer Dr. Abhishek Tripathi, Kimothi ended his protest, though he vowed to resume it if repairs are delayed.

The incident highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in Chamoli and underscores the growing impatience of local leaders and communities for timely government action.
