Hathras:
In a deeply disturbing incident, a 27-year-old man preparing for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, allegedly after battling prolonged depression. Before taking the extreme step, the youth wrote a suicide note on his hand, holding himself responsible for the decision and referring to his deteriorating mental health.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Aashirwad Dham Colony under the jurisdiction of Sadar Kotwali police station. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra Pratap Singh alias Bobby, the only son of Hari Singh, who is currently posted with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
According to police sources, Nagendra was alone at home at the time of the incident, as his father and other family members had gone to Mathura for some urgent work. When the family returned in the evening, they found him hanging from a noose in his room. The police were immediately informed.
Upon reaching the spot, police broke open the door, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. During the investigation, police found that the deceased had written a suicide note in English using red ink on his hand. In the note, he reportedly wrote: “I am tired now. I am struggling with mental health problems which have made me weak. I have consciously decided to end my life.”
Struggled With Depression, Was Preparing for TET
Family members stated that Nagendra had returned home about two years ago after leaving a job at a private company. He had since been preparing for the TET examination and had been living at home for the past six to seven months. According to relatives, he had been under visible stress and depression for several days prior to the incident.
A relative, Deepak, said that Nagendra appeared mentally disturbed over the last few days, which may have led to the tragic decision.
Police Investigation Underway
The police have taken the suicide note into custody and have initiated further investigation based on its contents. Officials said no foul play has been indicated so far, but all aspects are being examined.
Growing Concern Over Mental Health Among Youth
The incident once again highlights the increasing mental health challenges faced by young people, particularly those preparing for competitive examinations. Mental health experts emphasize the urgent need for counselling support, stress management, and timely intervention to prevent such tragedies.
