I Am Deeply Hurt”: Brahmin Community Lawyer Files Petition Against IAS Santosh Verma Over Alleged Objectionable Remark

Indore: A fresh controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after IAS officer Santosh Verma, the newly appointed President of the SC/ST Officers and Employees Association (AJAKS), was accused of making derogatory remarks about the Brahmin community. A 66-year-old lawyer has filed a petition in the Indore District Court demanding action against the officer.

Petition Filed in JMFC Court

Senior advocate Shailendra Dwivedi confirmed that he has submitted an application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), requesting the court to direct the police to register a case under relevant legal provisions.

“I belong to the Brahmin community and was deeply hurt by the offensive and objectionable comments made by the officer,”
Dwivedi stated.

The lawyer has sought a court-monitored inquiry into the matter.

Hearing Scheduled for December 4

The court has fixed December 4 as the date to hear arguments on the petition. According to the application, IAS Verma allegedly made “vulgar, indecent, and objectionable” comments regarding daughters of the Brahmin community while addressing an AJAKS programme in Bhopal last month.

The petition argues that such comments disturbed social harmony and created tension between communities.

State Government Issued Show-Cause Notice

The controversy escalated after the General Administration Department (GAD) issued a show-cause notice to the officer on November 26, questioning why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for the remarks.

Following widespread outrage, Verma issued a clarification in the media, stating:

  • A small segment of his long speech was “selectively highlighted.”
  • He had no intention of hurting the sentiments of any community.
  • If anyone felt offended, he expressed regret.

Statewide Protests Continue

Despite his clarification, protests have intensified across Madhya Pradesh. Members of the Brahmin community have staged demonstrations in several districts, demanding strict action against the IAS officer.

The matter is now legally, socially, and administratively sensitive, and all eyes are on the court hearing scheduled for December 4.
