The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finally put an end to widespread social media speculation surrounding the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 vote count. Viral posts had claimed that over 1.75 lakh postal ballots were deliberately rejected. The Commission has now categorically denied these allegations and released the authentic data.
Only 23,918 Postal Ballots Rejected, Says ECI
According to the official figures:
- Total postal ballots issued: 2.01 lakh
- Postal ballots rejected: 23,918
- Percentage of rejected postal ballots: 11.87%
This number is far lower than the rumors claiming that nearly two lakh postal votes were discarded.
Overall Voting Figures
- Total votes polled (EVM + postal ballots): 5.02 crore
- Valid votes: 4.93 crore
- Rejected votes (including postal ballots): 9.34 lakh
- NOTA votes: 9.10 lakh (1.81% of all votes)
The Election Commission clarified that the final count of valid votes (4.93 crore) was calculated after subtracting NOTA votes, and the counting was “100% accurate.”
No Impact of SIR on Election Result, Says EC
Questions had also been raised about whether SIR (Special Input Reports) or other mechanisms influenced the final outcome in which the Mahagathbandhan was swept away by the NDA.
The Election Commission has firmly stated that no such factor affected the results, and the entire counting process matched all verification checks.
Who Is Eligible for Postal Ballots?
The postal ballot system was used by:
- Senior citizens aged 85 years and above
- Voters marked as persons with disabilities (PwD)
- Essential service personnel
Record-Breaking Voter Turnout
Bihar witnessed its highest-ever polling percentage:
- Turnout: 67.25%
- Women voters outnumbered men across nearly 91,000 polling booths
Final Word
The Election Commission has reconfirmed that:
- All vote counts—EVM and postal—have been reconciled accurately
- Social media claims of mass rejection were false and misleading
This official clarification puts to rest all doubts regarding the fairness and transparency of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 counting process.
