Horrific Crime in Banda: Father Strangles 18-Month-Old Son, Dumps Body in Yamuna River

In a chilling incident that has shocked the residents of Banda, Uttar Pradesh, a father allegedly strangled his 18-month-old son and disposed of the body in the Yamuna River. The accused, identified as Rajendra from Dhanuhan Dera village in Fatehpur district, was taken into custody by the police and is currently under interrogation, while efforts continue to recover the child’s body.

According to reports, the crime occurred on the night of January 5 in Pachkauri village. Rajendra had come to his in-laws’ home to meet his wife, Sharda. While she slept, he reportedly took their toddler, Kartik, in his arms and quietly left the house. Around 150 meters from the village, near the banks of the Yamuna River, he allegedly strangled the child. The body was then placed in a boat and dumped into the river’s midstream before he fled the scene.

The family only realized something was wrong the next morning when Sharda woke up to find both her husband and son missing. Relatives, including the child’s maternal grandfather and uncle, along with villagers, conducted a three-day search along the riverbanks but found no trace of the boy. Rajendra later returned to his native village, where, under questioning by his in-laws, he confessed to killing his son.

Following the confession, the family informed the local police, who immediately took Rajendra into custody. Authorities revealed that the man had lost his two daughters earlier, which reportedly affected his mental state. He was also known to threaten the family in the past. Sharda had been living at her parental home for over a year due to ongoing family disputes.

Thana In-Charge Rajesh Verma stated that Rajendra has been arrested and is under interrogation. The strong currents of the Yamuna have made recovery of the child’s body difficult, but the police, with help from local residents, continue the search.

Sadar Area Officer Rajveer Singh Gaur added that after receiving a report from the woman, a case was immediately registered, and the search for the accused began. The investigation revealed that Rajendra was an alcoholic and that long-standing domestic disputes had plagued the family. The police have also invoked additional relevant sections of law and will proceed with further legal action.
