Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Families of Captain Vijay Kumar, a Merchant Navy officer from Bhainswal village in Gadhpukhta, Shamli, received a ray of hope for his early return to India. Captain Vijay and other crew members, who have been detained on a ship in Iran for over a month, have now been given their mobile phones back by Iranian authorities, allowing regular communication with their families.

Speaking to reporters, Vijay’s father, retired teacher Charan Singh, said the family is now able to speak to him daily. Vijay confirmed that the Iranian government has returned mobile phones to all crew members on board, although they remain under the supervision of the Iranian Navy.

Release Expected Within Days
According to family sources, high-level discussions are ongoing between India and Iran. Vijay mentioned that the Indian and Iranian Foreign Ministers are in constant dialogue regarding the situation. Officials are hopeful that within four to five days, Vijay, along with 16 other Indian crew members and two foreign nationals, could be released.

Detained While Returning from US with Crude Oil
Captain Vijay had left his village for a four-month foreign deployment with the Merchant Navy. About a month and a half ago, while returning from the US with a crude oil shipment, the ship was intercepted by the Iranian Navy, and Vijay, along with 17 others on board, was taken hostage.

The return of their mobile phones has brought relief and strengthened hopes of a safe and swift homecoming for Captain Vijay and his colleagues.
