Jaipur:
In a landmark move set to benefit millions, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has announced that residents of Rajasthan will now be eligible for free medical treatment under the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Yojana in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, after Gujarat. With this, Rajasthan has become India’s first state to implement outbound portability under a state-run health insurance scheme.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said that after the successful rollout of cashless treatment facilities in Gujarat, the state government has decided to extend the same benefit to neighboring states Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The initiative will enable Rajasthan residents to avail cashless treatment even outside the state, ensuring seamless access to quality healthcare.
Rajasthan Leads the Way in Outbound Portability
Under the Ayushman Arogya Yojana, outbound portability allows beneficiaries to receive treatment in empaneled hospitals located outside Rajasthan without any additional registration. This pioneering step is expected to provide major relief to patients who frequently travel to neighboring states for advanced medical care.
The facility has already been operational in Gujarat since 15 December, where Rajasthan residents are receiving cashless treatment in both government and private hospitals. The move has particularly benefited people living in border districts such as Dungarpur, Banswara, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, and Barmer, who traditionally depend on Gujarat for specialized healthcare.
Big Relief for Critical Patients
The scheme is proving especially beneficial for patients suffering from serious ailments such as cancer, kidney failure, and heart diseases, as they can now access specialized treatment without financial burden. With the inclusion of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the reach and impact of the scheme will expand significantly in the coming days.
Udaipur MP’s Initiative Brings Results
Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat had recently written to the Chief Minister, urging that Ayushman card holders from Rajasthan be allowed free treatment in Gujarat. Taking swift action, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma approved the proposal on 12 December, paving the way for its implementation. The success of this initiative has now led to its expansion to other states.
Massive Coverage Under the Scheme
Currently, 1.36 crore families are registered under the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Yojana in Rajasthan. On average, 8,200 patients receive treatment daily, with the government spending approximately ₹9.42 crore per day on healthcare services.
With outbound portability, beneficiaries no longer need to undergo separate registration to seek treatment outside the state. Health experts and public representatives have hailed the move as a game-changer in public healthcare, positioning Rajasthan as a national leader in inclusive and patient-centric health governance.
This bold initiative underscores the Rajasthan government’s commitment to ensuring “healthcare without borders” for its citizens.
