A dramatic incident unfolded in Chittorgarh on Thursday when a young man climbed a high mobile tower, threatening to end his life if he was not allowed to marry the woman he loved. The episode created panic among locals and kept police officials on their toes for several hours.
The youth, identified as Govind, scaled the mobile tower located inside the Meteorological Department campus around 11:30 AM, insisting that he would jump unless authorities intervened to fulfil his demand to marry his girlfriend, referred to as Basanti (changed name). The girl’s family had reportedly refused the marriage proposal, triggering Govind’s extreme step.
Demand to Call Collector and SP to the Spot
Upon receiving the information, City Deputy Vinay Chaudhary, the local station in-charge, and a full police team rushed to the scene. Authorities attempted to persuade Govind to climb down, but he remained adamant.
He demanded that the Collector and Superintendent of Police be called to the spot and insisted that the girl and her family be brought there immediately.
As the standoff continued, a large crowd gathered around the tower, watching the tense situation unfold.
Friend’s “Oath of Friendship” Finally Worked
When repeated attempts by police failed, officers called Govind’s close friend to the location. Standing below the tower, the friend reminded Govind of their long-standing friendship and urged him not to take any drastic step.
Moved by the emotional appeal, Govind finally agreed to come down.
Rescue teams quickly moved into action, using nets, ladders, and an ambulance on standby to bring him down safely. He was immediately taken into police custody for further inquiry.
Police Launch Investigation
Officials have stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the extreme act. The incident has sparked discussions about rising emotional stress and impulsive actions among youth.
