High-Stakes BCA Presidential Election: Kiran More Faces Off Against Dr. Darshan Banker

Ahmedabad/Vadodara: Gujarat, home to three major cricket associations—Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA), and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA)—is now witnessing a high-profile showdown in the BCA. The election for the new president is scheduled for February 15, drawing the attention of cricket and political circles alike.

The contest is between former cricketer Kiran More, representing the Revival Group, and Dr. Darshan Banker, fielded by the SatyaMev Jayate Group. Both candidates have significant backing, making this election one of the most closely watched in recent BCA history.

Banker vs More: Key Alliances

Renowned cardiologist Dr. Darshan Banker enjoys the support of Maharaja Samarjit Singh Gaekwad of Vadodara. The royal family-backed Royal Group has allied with the SatyaMev Jayate Group, setting up a fierce battle against the Revival Group led by Pranav Amin, the current BCA president.

The election has turned particularly competitive, with accusations and counter-accusations flying. Dr. Banker has raised concerns regarding the construction of Kotambi Stadium, while Kiran More has asserted that he has never taken a single rupee from BCA funds.

The Stakes

Although the election is for a cricket association, it carries broader implications. Political circles suggest that the group favored by internal BJP mandates could have an edge. Approximately 2,350 members are eligible to vote for 31 to 33 key posts, including president, vice-president, and secretary. Voting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Maha Shivratri, making the outcome pivotal in shaping the future direction of BCA.

As Vadodara prepares for the polls, all eyes remain fixed on who will emerge victorious in this high-voltage contest.
