
Mumbai, Maharashtra: The upcoming municipal council and municipal council board elections in Maharashtra have generated significant enthusiasm among candidates. The last date for filing nominations was Monday, with more than one lakh people submitting forms for both member and directly-elected president positions across the state.
Key Numbers and Dates
According to the State Election Commission, a total of 1,778 nominations were filed for member positions and 8,334 nominations for president posts. The final date for withdrawal of nominations is November 21. Voting is scheduled for December 2, and vote counting will take place on December 3. The Vidarbha and Marathwada regions witnessed the highest enthusiasm among candidates.
District-Wise Highlights
- Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar recorded the highest number of nominations with 11,811 for member positions and 1,192 for president posts.
- Nagpur district saw 7,125 member nominations and 577 president nominations.
- Pune district reported 11,044 member nominations and 823 for president posts.
- Nashik district had 9,590 member nominations and 713 for president posts.
Strong Participation in Other Districts
Significant candidate participation was also observed in districts like Buldhana, Amravati, and Yavatmal. In Amravati, over 10,150 nominations were filed across two talukas. Yavatmal recorded 2,175 member nominations and 190 for president posts, while Buldhana had 2,557 member and 219 president nominations. In the Konkan division (Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Thane), 3,010 member nominations and 200 president nominations were submitted.
The Maharashtra municipal elections are shaping up to be a highly competitive affair, reflecting widespread public and political engagement across the state.
