High Court Steps In as Neerja Modi School Challenges CBSE Decision in Amayra Case

Jaipur: The controversy surrounding the cancellation of Neerja Modi School’s affiliation following the tragic death of a Class IV student, Amayra, has now reached the Rajasthan High Court. The school has challenged the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decision, prompting judicial intervention in the matter.

After Amayra’s death, CBSE had cancelled the school’s affiliation for Classes IX to XII, citing serious lapses in safety norms and failure to follow prescribed guidelines. The young student reportedly died after jumping from the fourth floor of the school building, triggering widespread concern over student safety and institutional accountability.

Hearing the petition filed by Neerja Modi School, a single bench of Justice Bipin Gupta has issued notices to CBSE and its Secretary, seeking their response within two weeks. The court has taken cognizance of the school’s plea, which argues that the cancellation of affiliation could severely impact the academic future of hundreds of students currently enrolled.

Representing the school, advocate Rachit Sharma submitted that while any shortcomings highlighted by the authorities should be addressed, the extreme step of cancelling affiliation without granting an opportunity for corrective measures is unjustified. The school has maintained that it is willing to rectify any deficiencies pointed out during the inspection.

CBSE, on the other hand, had stated in its order that the decision to withdraw affiliation was taken after a detailed inquiry, which found violations of the school manual and serious shortcomings in ensuring student safety.

With the High Court seeking a formal response from CBSE, parents, students, and the education community are anxiously awaiting clarity. The case has raised critical questions about balancing accountability, student safety, and the future of children caught in the middle of a legal and administrative dispute.
