Satna, Madhya Pradesh: While most prisoners and their families anxiously await bail, a unique and troubling situation has emerged at Satna Central Jail. Five inmates, despite having been granted bail by the High Court, remain behind bars because their families are unwilling to submit the required bail bonds.
Bail Granted, Yet Freedom Denied
According to jail authorities, these five inmates are serving sentences in serious criminal cases, including murder, unnatural offenses, and crimes under the POCSO Act. Under legal procedure, once the High Court grants bail, families are required to furnish bail bonds to secure the prisoner’s release. Despite repeated attempts by jail officials—through calls and letters—the families have refused or failed to complete the process, leaving the inmates confined.
No One to Bring Them Home
The five inmates in question are:
- Ramkirtan Das (Raisen district, IPC 377)
- Imam Khan (Panna district, IPC 302)
- Ganesh Sharma (Bihar, POCSO Act case)
- Raja Bhaiya Dohar (Kitaha, Satna, IPC 332 & 333)
- Natthulal Prajapati (Panna district, IPC 302)
These cases involve serious offenses, which might explain the reluctance of families to bring them back into society.
Jail Authorities Continue Efforts
Deputy Jail Superintendent Sonveer Singh Kushwaha stated that the jail management is in constant touch with the families, attempting to convince them to complete the bail procedures. While some obstacles may be financial, authorities also note that the severity of the inmates’ crimes sometimes discourages families from taking responsibility for their reintegration.
He added, “The rehabilitation of these inmates remains our responsibility. We are making every effort to facilitate their release once the bail bonds are submitted. If successful, they could be freed soon.”
This situation highlights the challenges of post-bail procedures, especially in cases involving serious criminal charges, and the complexities faced by families in balancing legal obligations, societal stigma, and personal concerns.
