Heavy Rain Brings Relief to Delhi-NCR Air, AQI Improves

New Delhi: The recent heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR has provided significant relief to residents struggling with air pollution. Strong winds and rain helped wash away the settled layer of pollutants, resulting in an immediate improvement in air quality. Several areas have moved from the “Red” to the “Orange” AQI zone.

On the morning of January 24, areas such as Akshardham, ITBP, Anand Vihar, Mayur Vihar, Kalindi Kunj, and Delhi AIIMS experienced pleasant weather. According to officials, the rainfall and increased moisture may cause morning fog, but overall air quality is expected to improve further.

Current AQI readings include Alipur – 219, Anand Vihar – 300, Ashok Vihar – 290, Aya Nagar – 221, Bawana – 274, Burari Crossing – 262, Chandni Chowk – 313, CRRI Mathura Road – 222, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range – 294, and DTU – 265.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts partly to mostly cloudy conditions in NCR from January 24–26, with morning fog in several areas. Temperatures are expected to range from 7°C to 17°C on January 24, 5°C to 18°C on January 25, and 5°C to 19°C on January 26. Light rainfall is also predicted on January 27, with temperatures between 7°C and 21°C.

Experts note that rainfall helps settle airborne pollutants, temporarily improving air quality. However, they warn that pollution levels could rise again if the rainy and windy conditions subside.
