Balaghat, MP: A special intelligence-led operation by the Hawk Force has delivered a significant setback to Naxal activities in Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh. Following the martyrdom of Inspector Ashish Sharma, the joint campaign by MP Police, Maharashtra commandos, and Chhattisgarh police successfully dismantled key Naxal networks, weakening the Kanha-Bhormadev (KB) division and restoring a sense of peace in sensitive areas.
Intelligence Strategy Cripples Naxal Operations
The Hawk Force’s Special Intelligence Unit engaged in covert communications with forest guards and local contacts, gradually gaining the trust of Naxal operatives and limiting their influence across the state’s border regions. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described the success as a result of “trust-building,” forming part of a broader strategy that combines surrender incentives with the establishment of law and order. This achievement is also a tribute to Inspector Ashish Sharma’s sacrifice, which triggered the launch of ‘Operation Revenge.’
Operation Revenge Accelerated After Ashish Sharma’s Sacrifice
Inspector Ashish Sharma, a two-time gallantry awardee, was martyred during an encounter at the tri-junction of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Following his death, the coordinated operation applied continuous pressure on Naxal camps, isolating their leaders. Intelligence reports indicate that three major encounters over the past year pushed the Naxal operatives back, and peace has returned to previously vulnerable areas such as Balaghat.
MP’s Naxal Eradication Master Plan
Chief Minister Yadav has announced that Madhya Pradesh will be Naxal-free by January 2026. To achieve this, 15 new temporary camps and 882 Special Support Squad posts have been approved. Dindori and Mandla districts have already been declared Naxal-free, with Balaghat now the next target. This campaign, led under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, has nearly eliminated Naxal influence from the state.
CM Mohan Yadav’s Statement
“Naxalism is now a thing of the past; we are writing a new chapter of development,” said CM Yadav. The strategy focuses not only on military action but also on intelligence gathering and rehabilitation, including a 15-year rehabilitation package for former Naxal operatives.
Peace in Kanha National Park and Surrounding Areas
Once a hotspot for Naxal activity, the Kanha-Bhormadev region is now poised to become a center for tourism and development. Reduced Naxal influence has brought relief to local communities, enabling safe access to schools, hospitals, and roads. Hawk Force Commandant Shiyaz KM highlighted that intelligence efforts played a pivotal role in persuading Naxals to trust Madhya Pradesh authorities, even though some initially planned to surrender in Chhattisgarh. This shift marks not just a tactical victory but also the promise of lasting peace across the Dandakaranya region.
