
Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh / Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh: Inspector Ashish Sharma of Madhya Pradesh’s Hawk Force laid down his life on 19 November during a fierce encounter with Naxal insurgents in the forests of Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. The courageous officer was patrolling with his team when the Naxals opened fire, leaving Sharma critically wounded. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Encounter
The encounter occurred during a joint anti-Naxal operation involving police teams from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, patrolling the forests near Bebar Tola Bandh-Kangura Maidan and Kurrejhri. Around 8 a.m., the team came under sudden gunfire from the insurgents. Inspector Sharma was hit in the thigh and shoulder, sustaining severe injuries.
A Hero Remembered
Sharma, a resident of Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, had joined the Special Armed Force in 2016 and the Hawk Force in 2018. His valor had been recognized twice by the Government of India with bravery medals, and he had also received two out-of-turn promotions for his exceptional courage in the line of duty.
Condolences and Tribute
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow over Sharma’s martyrdom, stating:
“Today, Inspector Ashish Sharma attained martyrdom in a Naxal encounter. I pay my humble tribute to him. My condolences are with his grieving family. During this anti-Naxal operation, he displayed unparalleled bravery and courage. His supreme sacrifice in India’s mission to eradicate Naxalism will always be remembered. Sharma had previously been awarded twice for his extraordinary valor and indomitable spirit.”
Inspector Sharma’s sacrifice stands as a testament to the courage and dedication of India’s security forces in maintaining law and order in challenging terrains.
