“Have Mercy, Mother-in-Law”: UP Husband Falls at Mother-in-Law’s Feet Pleading to Take Wife Home

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: A bizarre incident unfolded at the Women’s Police Station and police line premises in Aligarh, capturing nationwide attention after a video went viral on social media. In the video, a desperate husband is seen repeatedly falling at his mother-in-law’s feet, pleading for his wife to be sent back to him. Despite his emotional appeals, the mother-in-law refuses, even pushing him aside and walking away.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Sanjay, a resident of Mathura, visited the Aligarh Women’s Police Station following a complaint filed by his wife. During discussions at the station, his mother-in-law refused to send her daughter back with him. Overcome with emotion, Sanjay was seen repeatedly crying, folding his hands, and begging the authorities for help, saying, “Meri Maiya, have mercy on me, please send my wife back.”

After leaving the police station, Sanjay continued his desperate pleas at the police line premises, first attempting to convince his wife directly and later falling at his mother-in-law’s feet at the gate, repeatedly crying out for mercy. Despite his efforts, he was unable to persuade her.

Sanjay told the media that he is married to a woman from Pinjari village in Gonda district and works as a laborer to support his family. They have three children, including an eight-year-old differently-abled son. Sanjay alleged that he was asked to pay money for his son’s treatment, which was never provided, and that his wife once called relatives from her parental home to assault him before fleeing with her jewelry. He said he lives under constant fear due to threats from his in-laws.

The Women’s Police Station confirmed that both parties were heard and that Sanjay has been asked to appear again on 14 January 2026. He reiterated that he wants to reunite with his wife but also requested action against a youth and instigating in-laws involved in the case.
