Hathras Voter List Controversy: Congress District Chief’s Mother Removed During SIR, Allegations Raised Against Administration

In a controversial incident during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, the name of the mother of Vivek Upadhyay, the district president of the Congress party, was removed without prior notice, verification, or consent. The incident has sparked serious questions about the functioning of the local administration and has triggered a political dispute.

Congress Leader Raises Serious Allegations

Vivek Upadhyay, a resident of Badhanau village in Sasni Tehsil, Sikohabad area, alleged that his mother’s name was arbitrarily removed from the voter list. He described this as a major attack on India’s democratic process. Upadhyay further questioned, “If a prominent political leader’s family member cannot be safeguarded in the SIR process, what about ordinary citizens and marginalized voters?”

He demanded immediate action against the responsible BLO (Booth Level Officer) if this was not a technical error but a deliberate act. He also urged that the removed name be restored immediately, warning that Congress would launch protests if the issue is not resolved.

Administration Responds

Responding to the allegations, SDM Sasni, Neeraj Sharma, said that an investigation is underway. Voters whose names were removed have been provided Form 6 to reapply. Once verification is complete, the names will be restored in the voter list. The administration emphasized that the process is transparent and measures are in place to rectify any errors.
