Hathras Tragedy: Mother-in-Law Dies After Consuming Poison, Son in Critical Condition

Hathras, Uttar Pradesh:
A shocking incident occurred in Siddh Nagar, Hathras, where a mother-in-law, Mala Devi, and her 16-year-old son Shubham consumed a poisonous substance following a quarrel with their daughter-in-law. Mala Devi, aged 42, succumbed to the poison during treatment, while her son remains hospitalized in a critical but improving condition.

Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the dispute between Mala Devi and her daughter-in-law on Saturday evening escalated, prompting Mala Devi to ingest the toxic substance. Witnessing this, her son Shubham also consumed poison. Both were immediately rushed to a private hospital by family members. Despite efforts to save her, Mala Devi passed away, leaving the family in shock.

Police Action
The Hathras Kotwali police arrived at the scene and took possession of the body for postmortem. Following the postmortem on Sunday, the body was handed over to the family. Since the exact cause of death could not be confirmed, the viscera has been preserved for further investigation. The police also stated that no formal complaint (tahreer) has been filed in connection with the case as of now.
