Hathras, Uttar Pradesh:
A disturbing incident unfolded in Nagla Rambal village of Hathras district, where a Dalit bride’s wedding procession was allegedly obstructed by members of the dominant Thakur community, who reportedly flooded the pathway to prevent the procession from moving forward. Police intervened promptly and ensured that the wedding ceremony was completed under tight security.
The incident occurred in the Sasni police station area, where the wedding procession of Satyapal Singh’s daughter had arrived. According to local reports, some men from the Thakur community intentionally released water onto the road to halt the procession. Upon receiving the information, police teams rushed to the spot, and under their protection, the barat was able to proceed and all rituals were completed peacefully. Heavy police deployment remained in the village throughout the event.
Residents informed police that this was not the first such attempt, claiming that the same group had previously obstructed Dalit wedding processions in the village. Fearing escalation, community members sought immediate help.
Members of the Bhim Army, including district president Prakash Chandra Gautam, Ajay Kumar, Tilak Singh Nigam, Rashid Malik, and Sachin Gautam, also reached the spot and alerted the Sasni police about the situation. Acting swiftly, Sasni police station in-charge Avdhesh Kumar arrived with a large police force. Under his supervision, the procession was escorted safely, and all marriage rituals were conducted without further disturbance.
After the successful completion of the ceremony, the Dalit family expressed gratitude to the police team for ensuring peace and safety.
According to Bhim Army district president Prakash Chandra Gautam, members of the Jadon Thakur community had blocked the procession by deliberately releasing water on the road. “We immediately informed the police, after which the procession was allowed to move ahead under full security,” he said.
