Chandigarh: A major twist has emerged in the sale of one of India’s most expensive VIP vehicle number plates. Haryana’s coveted registration HR88B8888, which was sold for ₹1.17 crore, is now set to go for re-auction. The reason: the winning bidder failed to complete the payment within the stipulated time.
The bidder, Sudhir Kumar, Director of Romulus Solutions Pvt. Ltd., had secured the number plate after a two-day auction, making it the most expensive number plate in the country. However, the payment deadline, set for December 1 at 12 noon, was missed.
Why the Payment Was Delayed
Sudhir Kumar explained that he attempted to transfer the amount twice on Saturday night but was unsuccessful due to a technical glitch. He further stated that his family opposes spending such a huge sum on a number plate. Discussions are ongoing at home, with elder family members questioning the prudence of such an expenditure, while Sudhir remains in favor of acquiring it. He added that a final decision would be made by Monday.
