Haryana Tragedy: Five Youths Sleep by Fire to Beat Cold, Three Found Dead

Hisar, Haryana: A chilling tragedy struck Hisar district on Monday when five young men trying to keep warm by lighting a fire inside a room succumbed to suffocation. Three of them were found dead the next morning, while two others were critically injured.

The incident occurred at a furniture factory in Dhandur village. The five men had lit a fire in a metal bucket inside a closed room and gone to sleep. A fellow employee discovered them unconscious the following day and immediately called for help. All five were rushed to the Civil Hospital, where three—Anuj, Amarjit, and Sahil—were declared dead. Preliminary reports revealed that one of the deceased had been married just two months ago. A post-mortem for the three victims is scheduled for Tuesday.

Details of the Victims
The five men—Anuj and Amarjit from Azamgarh, Shiva, Sanjay, and Sahil from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh—had arrived at the factory five days earlier for work. Since the Republic Day holiday meant no work on Monday, they slept inside the factory premises.

Discovery of the Tragedy
Around 1 PM, when no movement was observed in the room and the outside lights were still on, fellow worker Ashutosh grew suspicious and informed other employees. Peering through the glass window above the room, they found all five lying unconscious. Breaking the window and dousing the area with water, they discovered that Anuj, Sahil, and Amarjit had already passed away, while Shiva and Sanjay were still breathing. The police and ambulance were immediately called, and the injured were transferred to a private hospital due to the severity of their condition.

The local police have begun investigating the circumstances of the incident, which highlights the risks of using open fires indoors for warmth.
