Hapur Shock: Husband Allegedly Pays ₹5 Lakh to Kill Cancer-Stricken Wife, Uses ‘Saree Money’ as Codeword

Hapur, Uttar Pradesh: The Hapur police have uncovered shocking details in the murder of Rita Sharma in Bahadurgarh. Investigation revealed that her husband, Rahul Sharma, allegedly hired his friends to kill his cancer-stricken wife for ₹5 lakh. The two friends involved have been arrested.

Codeword Used to Conceal Crime
According to ASP Vineet Bhatnagar, Rahul Sharma allegedly paid his friends, Shera and Firoz, to carry out the murder. To avoid suspicion during discussions and payment collection, the accused reportedly used the codeword “saree money.”

Brutal Murder
The incident occurred on the morning of 2 February in Mohammadpur Rustampur village. Rita Sharma was killed by slitting her throat. At the time, Rahul Sharma was reportedly away from home, claiming he was attending a wedding. Upon returning, he allegedly fabricated a story that the killing was part of a robbery.

Domestic Strife and Extramarital Affair
Rita Sharma’s family told police that Rahul Sharma had an extramarital relationship with another woman from the village. Frequent disputes and physical altercations ensued, worsening even during Rita’s illness. This reportedly prompted Rahul to plan the murder.

The Conspiracy Unfolded
During police questioning, Rahul Sharma admitted to paying Shera and Firoz ₹5 lakh and forgiving ₹60,000 each that they owed him. After the murder, the three allegedly attended a wedding in Gram Nanai to create an alibi, took photographs, and spent the night at a shop in Bijnor. Rahul returned home the next morning and claimed the incident was a robbery.

Arrests Made
ASP Vineet Bhatnagar stated that based on a complaint from the victim’s family, an FIR was registered against Rahul Sharma, his mother-in-law Gayatri Sharma, father-in-law Vinod Sharma, and another woman. Police have arrested Rahul Sharma and two others involved, and further legal proceedings are underway.
