Hamirpur Shocked as Police Team Attacked: Constable Held Hostage, Brutally Assaulted; Condition Critical

In a shocking incident from Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a police team was violently attacked on Tuesday evening while attempting to arrest accused individuals involved in an assault on a woman. The incident took place in Umarahat village under Kurara police station limits, leaving one constable critically injured.

According to reports, Constable Ashish Maurya (28), resident of Kalyanpur, Mirzapur, and village watchman Jaipal Nishad had been dispatched by the Harolipur police outpost to investigate a complaint filed by a woman alleging assault by accused Mukesh and Yogesh, sons of deceased lakhna Nishad.

Police Team Surrounded and Attacked

As soon as the police team reached Kevtan Ka Dera in Umarahat village, the accused and their family members launched a sudden stone-pelting attack. Amid the chaos, the village watchman managed to escape and informed outpost in-charge Rajendra Singh.

However, Constable Ashish Maurya was overpowered by the mob, dragged inside a house, tied with ropes, and brutally beaten with sticks and rods. Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers even used a sharp-edged weapon on his head, leaving him unconscious and severely wounded.

Outpost In-charge’s Car Also Attacked

Upon receiving the information, outpost in-charge Rajendra Singh rushed to the scene in his private vehicle, but the mob surrounded him and pelted stones at his car, causing significant damage. In an attempt to escape the violent crowd, two local youths came in minor contact with the vehicle but were reported to be stable.

Constable Referred to Kanpur in Critical Condition

Heavy police force from Kurara police station reached the location and rescued the injured constable. He was first taken to CHC Kurara, then shifted to the district hospital, and later referred to Kanpur due to his critical condition.

Following the incident, ASP Manoj Kumar Gupta and CO Sadar Rajesh Kamal arrived at the village and reviewed the tense situation. A large police deployment has been made in the area to maintain law and order.

Statement from Senior Police Officials

SP Dr. Deeksha Sharma confirmed that the police team was attacked during the investigation of a woman assault case. The culprits will face strict action, she assured. ASP Manoj Gupta stated that a prior dispute between the two parties triggered the confrontation, and some members of the mob were under the influence of alcohol. He also dismissed claims that the officer had intentionally hit anyone with his vehicle.

Kurara police station in-charge Ramasray Saroj informed that no formal complaint or arrests have been made yet. Action will be taken based on statements and medical reports.

Umarahat village remains tense and largely deserted after the attack, with police patrolling the entire region and searching for the accused involved in the brutal assault.
