Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: In a disturbing incident in Bijakpur village under Bhitarwar police jurisdiction, tribal families living on government land were attacked by local goons, who set their huts on fire and issued threats to vacate the land. Aggrieved villagers approached the Gwalior SSP office and submitted a formal complaint, demanding strict action against the perpetrators.
Attack on Tribal Huts
The victims reported that they had been residing on the government land for several years. However, local strongmen, coveting the same land, reportedly torched the huts and physically assaulted women and elderly residents in an attempt to intimidate the families. Many tribal households were rendered homeless as their belongings were destroyed in the blaze.
Police Inaction Sparks Protest
While the victims did lodge a complaint with Bhitarwar police immediately after the incident, they allege that the police did not take effective action against the accused. Frustrated by the inaction, a group of tribal families marched to the SSP office, demanding a fair investigation and stringent measures against the culprits.
Victims Speak Out
At the SSP office, the tribal residents explained that they have no alternative housing options and have lived on the government land for years. They called the arson an outright attack on their basic right to shelter. The victims further stated that local goons continuously harass them and pressure them to vacate their homes.
Police Response
Following the complaint, senior police officials immediately directed the Bhitarwar police station to take swift and strict action. The authorities assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, and the guilty will not be spared. Meanwhile, the affected families remain in fear, awaiting justice and the arrest of the accused.
