Gwalior: The much-awaited 50% road tax waiver at the Gwalior Trade Fair went into effect today, 19 January, triggering a surge in vehicle deliveries at the event. Over the past 25 days, more than 8,000 vehicles have already been pre-booked, setting a new record.
The incentive is attracting buyers not only from Madhya Pradesh but also from neighboring states such as Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh, making Gwalior a preferred destination for vehicle purchases.
GST Benefits Add to Savings
This year, buyers are also benefiting from reduced GST rates. For example, the Wagon-R LXI CNG model now offers an additional savings of approximately ₹17,000 compared to last year. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced the 50% road tax waiver at both the Gwalior and Ujjain trade fairs to further boost vehicle sales.
Gwalior Trade Fair a Hub for Automobile Boom
The Gwalior Trade Fair is considered a reliable marketplace for the automobile sector. Vehicles purchased in Ujjain receive the MP 13 registration code, which some buyers consider inauspicious. In contrast, vehicles bought in Gwalior receive the MP 07 code, regarded as more favorable. This has increased demand for luxury cars at the fair. Last year, 128 luxury vehicles priced between ₹50 lakh and ₹2 crore were sold at the Gwalior Trade Fair.
Documentation Requirements for Out-of-State Buyers
Buyers from other states seeking the tax waiver must provide proof of residence in Gwalior. Acceptable documents include a two-year rental agreement, a local address in the Aadhaar card, or registration in the name of a Gwalior resident relative. Other city address proofs within Madhya Pradesh are also valid.
Luxury Car Makers Offer Additional Benefits
Major automobile brands such as Maruti, Tata, Renault, Mahindra, Kia, Hyundai, Jeep, and Citroën, along with luxury brands like Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, are participating in the fair. With the road tax waiver notification in effect, buyers are enjoying additional financial benefits.
