Gurugram, Haryana: A daring abduction attempt at the popular picnic spot, Leopard Trail, in Gurugram’s Aravalli region was thwarted on Sunday morning when a 23-year-old woman’s kidnapper got his vehicle stuck in mud and fled, allowing the police to rescue the victim safely.
According to police reports, the suspect, a food vendor, forcibly placed the woman in his Scorpio and drove her through the city, taking her via Southern Peripheral Road, Subhash Chowk, and Sector-74 into a remote hilly and forested area. The car became immobilized on a muddy track, and when the woman raised an alarm, the abductor abandoned the vehicle and fled. Forensics teams later collected evidence at the scene, while location data from the victim’s mobile phone helped reconstruct the incident.
Rapid Arrest
Within hours, Gurugram Police formed three special teams and arrested the accused, identified as 25-year-old Gaurav Bhati, who works as a food vendor. The Scorpio had been borrowed from another vendor under the pretext of buying alcohol. Police traced the vehicle to its owner, who confirmed that the car was taken without proper permission. The abductor was tracked to a nearby village after the car got stuck in mud and was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Incident Details
Police sources stated that the victim and a colleague had reached Leopard Trail late Saturday night and stayed there for about 90 minutes. During this time, Bhati allegedly harassed them, leading to an argument that escalated into violence. He reportedly seized the woman’s mobile phone, forced her into his vehicle, locked the doors, and sped off. The victim’s colleague attempted to intervene but was pushed aside. The police were alerted immediately and tracked the vehicle using the mobile phone’s location.
Suspect Intoxicated
A senior police officer confirmed that medical tests revealed Bhati was under the influence of alcohol during the incident. When police brought him back to the site, he tried to flee again but sustained a fractured right leg and facial injuries after falling in the uneven terrain. He was admitted to a hospital under police supervision and later presented in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
