Gunfire in Broad Daylight: History-Sheeter Aslam Murdered in Meerut Gang War

Meerut: In a brazen daylight gang war barely 100 meters from Nochandi police station in Meerut, history-sheeter Mohammad Arshad’s relative, Aslam, was fatally shot as old rivalries erupted into violence. Around 20 rounds were fired in a shocking public attack, leaving the area in terror.

Attack in Jaidi Farm Area
Aslam, the brother of accused Bilal in the 20-month-old murder case of history-sheeter Mohammad Arshad, was stepping out with his friend Shuaib to collect a scooter when five assailants lying in wait ambushed them. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire in the lane, hitting Aslam four times. Shuaib, who tried to flee, was also shot in the shoulder after seeking shelter inside his home.

Panic in the Neighborhood
The deafening gunfire sent shockwaves through the neighborhood. Witnesses said the assailants shouted that they had avenged their fallen comrade and warned that anyone harboring enmity would not be spared. They then fled on a motorcycle past the police station. Shuaib was admitted to Lokpriya Hospital, while Aslam, critically injured, was referred to a Delhi hospital. Unfortunately, he died en route.

Rivalry Spanning 20 Months
The roots of this bloody conflict trace back to 4 June 2024, when Bilal and his associates killed history-sheeter Arshad at a swimming pool on Bijli Bamba Marg during a power struggle. Five accused, including Bilal, were imprisoned. While Bilal remains in jail, his father Imran, brother Aslam, and other accused had secured bail. Since then, Arshad’s family had been plotting revenge.

Warnings Ignored
Arshad’s brother Asad, himself a known history-sheeter from Nochandi, had openly warned of retaliation, even posting on social media about “blood for blood” after Aslam’s release. The family had informed police of potential threats, but a delayed response allowed Friday’s attack to unfold.

Police Action
Police have registered cases against main accused Asad and 11 others under murder and other serious charges. CO Abhishek Tiwari and SP City Ayush Vikram visited the scene for investigation. Despite being previously banished from the district, Asad’s continued activity in the city raises questions about law enforcement effectiveness. Meanwhile, five members of Arshad’s family have been taken into custody for questioning.
