Guna Mother Cleared of Son’s Death Murder Charges: High Court Slams Lower Court

Guna/Gwalior: Justice has finally been delivered for Alka Jain, a mother who was wrongfully accused of murdering her only son, Abhyuday Jain, after his tragic death. The police had initially named her the prime suspect, placing her in custody while she was still grieving. The Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has now quashed all charges against her, calling the lower court’s decision “entirely based on imaginary assumptions.”

Tragic Death of a Young Boy

Alka Jain, married to Anupam Jain on June 1, 2006, gave birth to their son Abhyuday on February 1, 2011. Due to her husband’s job transfer, she was living in Guna with her 15-year-old son. On February 14, 2025, she found Abhyuday hanging in their bathroom. She rushed him to the district hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

Post-Mortem Report and Wrongful Arrest

The post-mortem report suggested strangulation as the cause of death. Based on this, Guna police initially registered a murder case against unknown persons, but soon arrested Alka Jain on March 8, 2025, without concrete evidence. She was granted regular bail by the High Court on June 16, 2025.

Investigations by a Special Investigation Team revealed that Abhyuday had been suffering from academic depression due to declining grades. The SIT concluded there was no evidence against Alka, and the police submitted a closure report after approval from senior officials.

Lower Court Overlooked Evidence

Despite this, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Guna rejected the closure report and ordered a criminal trial against Alka on May 9, 2025, based on mere suspicion. The matter was subsequently taken to the High Court.

High Court Verdict

On February 9, 2026, Justice Milind Ramesh Phadke ruled that the lower court’s decision was “entirely based on imaginary assumptions.” The medical expert report clearly indicated that subconjunctival hemorrhage could occur both in hanging and strangulation cases—a fact ignored by the magistrate. The High Court permanently quashed all criminal proceedings against Alka Jain, clearing her of all charges.

“A mother cannot be criminalized merely on suspicion, disregarding medical evidence,” Justice Phadke emphasized in his judgment.
