Live-in Partner Murder Case: Man Arrested from Delhi Train After Killing Woman and Dumping Her Body in a Travel Bag in Surat

Ahmedabad: In a shocking crime that has gripped Gujarat, the Surat Police arrested a man from a Delhi-bound train for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and disposing of her body inside a travel bag. The accused, identified as Ravi Kumar Sharma, is accused of strangling his 25-year-old partner to death before dumping her body near Kosamba village in Surat district.

Murder Triggered by Marriage Dispute

According to police sources, Ravi Kumar’s live-in partner had been pressuring him to get married, which allegedly led to frequent arguments between the two. Overcome by frustration, Ravi decided to kill her. The crime came to light on November 3, when a villager in Tarsadi discovered a suspicious travel bag. Upon opening it, police found a woman’s body crammed into the two-foot-long bag, with her hands and feet bound with thread.

Police launched an investigation and registered a murder case against an unidentified person. The post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation. Ten police teams were formed to identify the deceased and trace the culprit.

Victim Identified as Woman from Bihar

The deceased was later identified as Kajal Devi, a native of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Police investigations revealed that Kajal had been married to one Akhilesh Mukhiya and had a two-year-old son. After disputes with her husband, she had moved to Delhi with her child.

About a year ago, Kajal met Ravi Kumar Sharma through social media, where he was working in a private hotel at the time. Their friendship turned romantic, and they began living together. However, when Kajal started pressuring him for marriage, Ravi distanced himself and shifted to Surat, where he took up a job in a textile factory. Kajal later traced him with the help of his friends and moved in with him again.

Argument Turned Fatal on November 2

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Gadhia stated that the couple had been living together in Tarsadi village for about two and a half months. On November 2, they had a heated argument over Ravi’s alleged friendships with other women on social media and Kajal’s insistence on marriage. During the quarrel, while Kajal’s young son was playing outside, Ravi strangled her to death.

Arrested While Escaping to Delhi

After the murder, Ravi reportedly took Kajal’s son to a friend’s house, telling him they were going shopping. He then purchased a travel bag from a local market near Kosamba railway station, stuffed Kajal’s body inside, and dumped it near a railway overbridge before boarding a train to Delhi with the child.

Tracking his mobile phone, police discovered his location in Delhi. Acting on intelligence, a joint team of Surat Police, Faridabad Police, and the Railway GRP intercepted the Delhi–Faridabad train and arrested Ravi Kumar Sharma.

Authorities have placed him under a two-day transit remand and are bringing him back to Surat for further interrogation. The child is currently in police protective custody, and officers have contacted the victim’s parents in Bihar.

Police sources say the investigation is focused on confirming the sequence of events and establishing the motive, as well as determining whether anyone else assisted in the disposal of the body.
