Ahmedabad, Gujarat: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in coordination with the Indian Coast Guard, seized 200 kilograms of drugs from the sea near Porbandar. The operation also led to the arrest of two Iranian nationals on board a suspicious speedboat.
Operation Based on Confidential Input
According to DIG Sunil Joshi, the Gujarat ATS received confidential information that Haji Fida, an Iranian national, was planning to send narcotics from Iran to his associates in Punjab. The planned exchange was scheduled to take place approximately 140 nautical miles off the Porbandar coast on the night of 15–16 February. Acting on this input, the ATS formed a special team and coordinated closely with the Coast Guard for maritime surveillance.
Interception at Sea
After hours of monitoring, authorities spotted a small speedboat. Upon inspection, two men – Abdul Majid and Abdul Sattar – were found on board, along with 203 packets containing a suspicious white chemical, suspected to be narcotics. The speedboat was seized, and both men were taken into custody for questioning.
Ongoing Investigation
The ATS has recovered a mobile phone from the suspects and is monitoring other suspicious individuals in Gujarat. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is conducting further analysis of the seized substances, while interrogation continues to uncover the full network behind the drug shipment.
