GST Raid on Construction Firms Linked to Former Minister in Balaghat

Balaghat, January 16, 2026: In a significant development, the Anti-Evasion Bureau conducted a major GST raid on two construction firms associated with former minister and current BJP district president, Ramkishore Kawre. The firms, Harsh Construction and Van Ganga Construction, were scrutinized late Thursday night over alleged tax irregularities.

Two separate teams from the Jabalpur Anti-Evasion Bureau carried out the operations, led by senior tax officers Ravindra Sanodia and Brajendra Singh. Over a dozen officials combed through the firms’ offices, examining GST invoices, registers, transaction records, and other relevant documents well into the night.

Officials maintained a low profile during the operation and refrained from speaking to the media. However, in off-the-record comments, they confirmed that the raid focused entirely on GST-related documentation, with detailed findings to be disclosed by senior authorities in due course.

Sources indicate that such raids are usually triggered by credible intelligence or serious suspicion of tax evasion. While the exact amount involved remains unclear, it is believed that the bureau is investigating substantial irregularities in both firms.

The development has stirred political discussions, given the involvement of a senior ruling party leader. Opposition parties are closely monitoring the case, while administration officials continue to stress that the investigation is ongoing.

Experts suggest that only after the completion of the investigation will it become clear whether the issue is a routine compliance matter or part of a larger tax evasion scheme. Meanwhile, both firms remain under intense scrutiny, with further disclosures expected in the coming days.
