Groom Flees Wedding Stage Citing ‘Washroom’ Excuse Before Rituals, Two Sisters’ Wedding Turns Into Tragedy in Mathura

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh): What was meant to be the most memorable day in the lives of two sisters turned into a heartbreaking nightmare after one of the grooms allegedly fled the wedding venue moments after the jaimala ceremony.

The incident took place in the Govardhan police station area of Mathura, where the marriage of two real sisters had been arranged with two real brothers from Rajasthan. The wedding celebrations were underway in full swing, with both families following rituals and customs according to the auspicious timings (muhurat).

The bride’s family had welcomed the groom’s side with traditional hospitality. The grooms were given a warm reception, and all rituals, including the tilak ceremony, were completed smoothly. The grooms were then escorted to the stage, where relatives and guests were taking photographs.

According to sources, the elder sister and her groom even exchanged garlands (jaimala) during the ceremony. However, shortly afterward, the elder groom reportedly left the stage saying he needed to use the washroom — and never returned.

Within minutes, celebrations turned into chaos and mourning as the groom was found missing. The shocking incident also put the wedding of the younger sister in jeopardy, leaving both brides devastated.

Family in Shock, Sisters Left Waiting With Mehendi-Clad Hands

The bride’s family broke down in tears following the incident. The brother of the brides expressed deep anguish, stating that the day was supposed to be special for his sisters, but instead the family was humiliated in front of relatives and guests.

“They dreamed of this day for months. But the deceitful grooms ruined their lives and dignity. My sisters kept waiting at the mandap with mehendi on their hands,” he said.

Police Action Underway

Following a complaint by the bride’s side, Govardhan police reached the spot immediately. Considering the seriousness of the matter, police reportedly detained some close relatives of the groom’s family for questioning.

Officials said efforts are being made to trace the absconding groom and raids are being conducted at possible locations. Police also confirmed that an FIR will be registered under appropriate legal sections once the investigation is completed.

The incident has left the entire locality stunned, raising questions about the increasing cases of fraud and deception in marriage arrangements.
