Greater Noida: Two Men Sentenced to 20 Years for Gangrape, Lured Victim with Job Offer

Greater Noida: A district court in Surajpur, Greater Noida has delivered a landmark judgment in a case where two men allegedly gang-raped a young woman by luring her with a fake job offer. The Special SC/ST Judge found property dealers Rajeev Gupta and Pradeep Mittal guilty and sentenced them to 20 years imprisonment each. In addition, Gupta was fined ₹2.95 lakh and Mittal ₹2 lakh, of which 80% will be awarded to the victim. The case, originally registered in 2020, has reached its verdict after five years.

Case Background

The case dates back to April 2017, when the victim, seeking employment, visited a commercial building in Sector-64, Noida. There she met Rajeev Gupta, who claimed to need a computer operator and collected her resume. A few days later, he offered her a monthly salary of ₹15,000, assigning her to maintain records. About 15 days later, the victim decided to resign and asked for her due salary.

The Crime

The accused invited the victim to their office, offering coffee and food. After consuming it, she suddenly developed a severe headache. Rajeev allegedly instructed her to rest in another room, where she lost consciousness. Upon waking, she found herself naked, while Gupta and Mittal were reportedly drinking alcohol. When she protested, she was physically assaulted and threatened with the release of obscene videos, after which she was gang-raped repeatedly. The victim stated that Gupta continued to exploit her sexually from 2017 to 2020, using threats and intimidation.

Support from Husband and Legal Action

The victim married in 2020 and confided in her husband, who supported her pursuit of justice. Initially, the police failed to act on her complaint, but eventually, following a court order, an FIR was registered. Mobile data and evidence corroborated the victim’s claims. Subsequently, the police filed a charge sheet, leading to the court’s conviction of the two property dealers. Phase-3 police station actively pursued the case.
