Greater Noida | February 21, 2026: Panic gripped residents of Greater Noida West on Friday afternoon after a powerful explosion caused by a leaking LPG cylinder triggered a fire at a restaurant near Coco County Society in Sector 10, Ecotech-3 police station area. Two restaurant employees sustained burn injuries, while a woman and a 17-year-old boy were hurt during the chaos that followed.
According to Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, the fire department received information about the incident at approximately 12:40 pm. A firefighting team was immediately dispatched to the spot.
Gas Leak Led to Regulator Fire
Preliminary investigation revealed that the LPG cylinder had developed a leak, which caused the regulator to catch fire. The flames spread rapidly, accompanied by a loud explosion-like sound that shattered the restaurant’s glass panels and created panic in the surrounding area.
At the time of the incident, several customers were dining inside the restaurant. In the rush to escape, a woman and her teenage son suffered minor injuries. The two injured staff members were reportedly working in the kitchen when the blast occurred and sustained burn injuries.
All four injured individuals were admitted to a private hospital, and officials confirmed that their condition is stable and out of danger.
Fire Brought Under Control
Police and fire personnel swiftly initiated rescue operations. The fire was brought under control with the help of the building’s installed firefighting system, preventing further escalation. However, nearby shops also suffered damage due to the impact of the blast.
Residents of the housing society reported that the explosion was loud enough to be heard from a considerable distance. Many people, who were outside to pick up children from school at the time, rushed out of their flats in fear.
Concerns Over Fire Safety
Local residents have raised concerns regarding inadequate fire safety arrangements in commercial markets operating near residential societies in Greater Noida West. Several restaurants, cloud kitchens, and cafes function in these areas, and residents claim that proper fire safety measures are often lacking.
Authorities are conducting a detailed inspection to determine whether the restaurant was complying with mandated fire safety norms. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident once again highlights the urgent need for strict enforcement of fire safety regulations in densely populated commercial-residential zones.
