New Delhi: Following a slight improvement in air quality, GRAP-3 restrictions in the Delhi-NCR region have been lifted. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced on Thursday that the easing comes after monitoring current Air Quality Index (AQI) levels. The sub-committee will continue to closely track air quality and review AQI data and forecasts issued by the IMD/IITM to take timely decisions if necessary.
Improvement in Delhi’s Air Quality
Earlier, the air quality in the capital region was recorded as “Very Poor” with an AQI of 313. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI is categorized as follows: 0–50 “Good,” 51–100 “Satisfactory,” 101–200 “Moderate,” 201–300 “Poor,” 301–400 “Very Poor,” and 401–500 “Severe.” The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted moderate fog on Thursday and thunderstorms with rain on Friday.
Who Will Benefit from the Lifted Restrictions?
During GRAP-3, the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles, including cars, was prohibited. Commercial transport vehicles, especially diesel trucks, were also strictly restricted. With the removal of these restrictions, these vehicles can now operate normally.
Additionally, BS-IV or lower-standard diesel medium goods vehicles, which were previously barred except for essential goods or services, can now resume operations. Construction and demolition activities can restart, including metro and railway projects. Government employees can return to work from offices as usual.
