Government Building in Kishanganj to be Auctioned; The Reason Will Surprise You

Kishanganj, Bihar: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar’s NDA government has been actively focusing on development initiatives. In a recent turn of events, a government-owned building in Kishanganj is set to be auctioned. This property is linked to the Public Works Department (PWD), and the decision has caught local attention. Here’s why.

The Sub-Judge First Court in Kishanganj has set the date for a public auction of properties seized from the PWD. This action comes after the department failed to make due payments to a contractor. The auction is scheduled for 28 January 2026, and will include both movable assets like furniture and equipment, as well as a valuable building situated in a prime area of the city.

The court, under Execution Case No. 22/2024 (CIS-25/2024), has directed the auction of the PWD’s seized properties. It also emphasized that proper public notices must be issued and followed according to legal procedures, ensuring interested bidders can participate on the scheduled date.

What led to the auction?
The dispute involves the PWD and contractor Mukesh Kumar Singh, who claims that the department did not fully pay for the construction work he executed. After repeated attempts to resolve the issue at the departmental level failed, the contractor approached the court. This led to the seizure of properties, which are now being moved towards public auction.

Movable assets also up for sale
The auction will include departmental movable assets, such as office furniture and equipment, with an estimated total value of around ₹20,000. Items include four tables, twenty chairs, five cabinets, six ceiling fans, and one air conditioner.

Prime two-story building on 10 Kattha land
The most significant asset in the auction is the PWD’s immovable property located in Ward No. 9, Mouza Dumaria. This two-story brick building, spread over approximately 2,000 square feet on 10 Kattha of land, has been valued at ₹1.50 crore.

According to the Executive Engineer of the PWD, this is a longstanding case. Continuous correspondence has been maintained regarding pending payments, but the judicial process is proceeding as per legal procedures. The proceeds from the auction will be used to settle the contractor’s pending dues.
