Gorakhpur Tragedy: Youth Dies by Suicide After Recording Video in Alleged One-Sided Love Case

In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, a 25-year-old youth allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison, shortly after recording a video message in the locality of a girl he was reportedly obsessed with in a case of one-sided love, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Subhash Nagar area under Tiwari Pur police station limits. According to police, the youth recorded a video lasting around one and a half minutes, in which he named a girl and stated that he had come to her neighbourhood to end his life, claiming that no one would trouble her anymore.

Local residents noticed the youth in distress and rushed towards him, but by the time they reached, he had collapsed and died on the spot.

Identity and Background

Police recovered identity documents from the spot, which revealed that the deceased was Kartik alias Abhishek Yadav, a native of Bheempur area in Ballia district. He was living in Gorakhpur in a rented accommodation and was pursuing his Class 12 studies.

The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination, following which the deceased’s family was informed.

Prior Police Case Involving Minor Girl

According to police records, the youth was allegedly involved in harassing a Class IX student, a resident of Subhash Nagar, whom he was pursuing in a one-sided relationship. The girl’s family had earlier lodged a complaint accusing him of stalking, forcibly stopping her on the road, and issuing threats to her and her brother.

Based on the complaint, police had arrested the youth on November 3, 2024, but he later went absconding for several months. On February 2, he reportedly travelled from his village to Gorakhpur and went directly to the girl’s neighbourhood, where the incident took place.

Police Statement

Tiwari Pur Station House Officer Vijay Pratap Singh said the body was kept in the mortuary after post-mortem and later handed over to the family once they arrived in Gorakhpur.

“We are examining all aspects of the case. The video recovered from the spot is also being verified as part of the investigation,” the SHO said.

Police said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
