Gorakhpur Minor Rape Case: Instagram Relationship Led 13-Year-Old Girl Into Tragic Trap

A disturbing case of sexual assault involving a minor has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, revealing how social media influence and emotional vulnerability can push young adolescents into dangerous situations.

According to police investigations, a 13-year-old girl, who was fond of making Instagram reels, developed a relationship with a 15-year-old boy she met online. The girl had even posted Instagram status messages describing him as “BF, my jaan.”

On the day of the incident, the minor was recording a reel outside her house when the boy arrived in a van along with one of his friends. She willingly accompanied him, and the group reportedly spent the day roaming across different areas of the city.

Later, the boy took the girl to a hotel. However, when he failed to arrange money to pay for the room, he abandoned the minor and fled from the premises.

Taking advantage of her vulnerable condition, the hotel owner, the hotel manager, and a man operating a spa on the premises allegedly sexually assaulted the minor.

Police have arrested all the accused and registered the case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Investigation Reveals Social Media Influence

During questioning, police found that the victim belonged to a financially weak family. Her father works as a driver, while her mother is employed as a domestic help.

Investigators stated that the girl had discontinued her education after Class 5 and was deeply influenced by the glamorous lifestyle portrayed on social media platforms. Aspiring to live a luxurious life similar to what she saw online, she became emotionally attached to the teenage boy, who works at a salon and projected himself as stylish and financially stable on Instagram.

Police officials also noted that the minor frequently used English phrases and social media slang, reflecting the strong impact of online exposure at an early age.

Police Assure Strict Action

Senior police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and that all those responsible will face strict legal action.

The case has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding child safety, unregulated social media access, and the urgent need for digital awareness among parents and guardians.
